Local School Kids Taught Lesson at Ashoka Shak

The school day was spiced up a bit last week for a class from Letham Primary School , Craigshill, Livingston , when they were taught a lesson in the art of Indian cuisine at the town's Ashoka Shak. And things really started to heat up when they were invited to taste a selection of dishes for themselves.

The demonstration was the idea of Mrs Rutherford, Letham's head teacher, as part of a day's teaching about India , its history, people, culture and cuisine for a class of 24 10-12 year olds, including several Indian pupils.

Gaurav, manager at the Ashoka Shak, said, 'We cooked a variety of dishes, including, creamy kormas, mouthwatering masalas, and sweet 'n' tangy chup chap chicken to give the kids a taste of a cross-section of exotic eastern cuisine, showing them how each dish is prepared, cooked, served and how it is eaten. And given that they scoffed the lot, I think I can safely say that they enjoyed their spicy alternative to the usual school meal!'

The Ashoka Shak, at the McArthur Glen Retail Park , Almondvale, is part of Harlequin Leisure Group, Europe 's largest chain of Indian restaurants.
