Let's go fly a kite for India's Independence
Kama Sutra staff officially launched the restaurant's 'Flavour of India Festival' on Thursday 07th August at 11am in Blythswood Square, by flying kites to begin the restaurant's countdown to India's National Independence Day.
The restaurant's exotic seven-day festival will provide a rare opportunity for people to taste the traditional and authentic cuisine of one of the world's most vibrant countries.
The festival will run from Friday 8 August and will culminate in an Indian celebration on Friday 15 August, India's national Independence Day, where kite flying has been a tradition since the country gained independence in 1947. Indian Bollywood movie screenings will also take place throughout the week, including the highly acclaimed Indian version of 'kama sutra'
Showcasing a different menu everyday for seven days, Kama Sutra will present a unique collection of regional specialities from the sub-continent's 29 states - from the well-known Punjab to the lesser known Chettinad, Mangalore and Pondicherry.
Restaurateur and owner of Kama Sutra, Sandy Majhu, commented: 'Gourmet Glasgow is the perfect time to launch a food festival like this and to introduce diners to the real taste of India. The festival will reflect not only the diversity and flavours of both India and Glasgow, but will also deal with the misconceptions of what constitutes 'authentic' Indian cuisine.
'There is a massive Indian contingency in Glasgow and the city has, over the years, fully embraced both Indian culture and cuisine - so it's about time we celebrate and have our very own Indian food festival in the city, which everyone can enjoy.
'As well as marking the occasion of India's Independence Day, we want the people of Glasgow to experience traditional India, as we know it, and the specialities of Rajasthan, Karnataka and Kerala.'
The skilled team of Indian chefs at Kama Sutra will cook up a feast throughout the seven day festival, which will feature rural dishes that have never been seen before on menus in Scotland. Some of the dishes that will be on offer include Jungali Venison Curry, Dum Gosht Hyderabadi Biryani, Chicken Tarkari Handi and Goan Fish curry.
Throughout the week, committed food fans will also be invited to embrace the appropriate etiquette and dine 'Indian-style' with their fingers instead of cutlery! Kama Sutra staff will be on hand to demonstrate how it's done and provide useful tips.
